Taheke Conservation Area (Pt)
Taheke Conservation Area (Pt) — the larger part block under the Mangapurua permit area — is a 5,655 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region. Elevations run from about 170 m up to 681 m, with a median around 453 m, so it sits as lowland to mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
The block has a southerly lean, with about 17% of the country facing south and useful shares also dropping south-east, west and east. Aspects are otherwise reasonably spread. At over 5,000 hectares it is a serious piece of country with room to set parties on different sidles.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, sika, wild goat and wild pig. It carries the full spread of central North Island bush species, including sika on the western side of their range.
