Conservation Area - Waitewhena
Waitewhena Conservation Area is a substantial 4,117 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Western King Country permit area. Elevations are low, running from about 148 m up to 483 m with a median near 321 m, so this is lowland to foothill bush country well below the bushline.
Aspects are evenly spread, with a slight lean to south and south-east. There is no single dominant face — the block is a rolling spread of bush-clad spurs and gully systems typical of the back King Country. At over 4,000 hectares it is a decent-sized piece of bush to hunt, with enough country to set parties on different sidles without crowding.
Game on the permit includes red deer, wild goat and wild pig. It is bush-and-spurs hunting, with pigs likely along stream flats and creek heads.
