Carvers Block (Pt Taheke C. A.)
Carvers Block is a very small 69 ha part of the Taheke Conservation Area, sitting in the Manawatu-Wanganui region under the Whanganui Restricted permit area. It is set up as a restricted hunting area (RHA), which means access is controlled and hunting is by allocation rather than open permit.
Elevations run from about 459 m up to 691 m, with a median around 566 m, so this is mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline. The block leans north-west, with about a quarter of the country facing that way and useful shares also picking up north and west. Slopes are mainly bush-clad with the broken spur-and-gully country typical of the wider Taheke block.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. At this size the block is suited to a focused short stalk by the allocated party rather than a multi-day trip.
