Adams Conservation Area
Adams Conservation Area is a small 364 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, sitting under the Mangapurua permit area on the western side of Whanganui National Park country. Elevations run from about 165 m up to 612 m, with a median around 342 m, so this is lowland to mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
The block sits on a mainly south-facing fold of country, with shaded southerly and south-easterly sidles dominating and a fair share also tipping west and north-west. It is dense bush-and-spurs hunting rather than open tops, the typical Whanganui-country pattern of broken ridges, papa-bottomed gullies and tight bush stalking.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. For a small block it carries a useful spread of species, and at this scale it suits a focused short stalk rather than a multi-day trip.
