Conservation Area - Mangapehi
The Mangapehi Conservation Area is a 965 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Pureora Forest Park and surrounds permit area. Elevations run from about 255 m up to 608 m, with a tight median around 532 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
The block has a south-east lean, with around 18% of country facing that way and another 17% to the east. Westerlies also pick up a useful share, so there are workable faces for most wind directions. This is bush-and-spurs hunting through King Country forest rather than open ground.
Game on the permit includes red deer, wild goat and wild pig. The block sits in the wider Pureora deer country and offers a reasonable mid-size piece of bush to work.
