Lake Hawea Hunting Safaris
Lake Hawea
Lake Hawea Hunting Safaris is run by Chris McCarthy out of the Lake Hawea area in the Otago high country. The operation holds exclusive access across roughly 50,000 acres of private free-range terrain plus a 4,000-acre high-fenced estate that's used for alternative red stag hunts when free-range conditions don't suit. Species on offer include free-range and estate red stag, tahr, alpine chamois, fallow, sika, South Pacific whitetail and wapiti, plus Arapawa ram, boar and goat.
Hunts are 1x1 and built around spot-and-stalk in alpine country, with comfortable lodge accommodation on the main property and basic helicopter-accessed tent camps for the higher tahr and chamois work. Helicopter assistance is included on certain species packages.
The headline product is a 7-day/8-night free-range combo priced in NZD by stag class, with chamois sold as a separate trophy fee. No postal address is published on the site.
