Gary Herbert's New Zealand Hunting

Gary Herbert has guided hunters in New Zealand for decades and operates out of a lodge in South Canterbury, near Waimate. He runs as host, outfitter and guide, taking small numbers of clients on packaged red stag, wapiti, tahr and chamois hunts plus management and night-shoot options.

Red stag packages are priced by SCI class on 5-day/4-night formats with 1x1 or 2x1 guide ratios. Tahr and chamois are sold as a separate alpine package, with a longer combo trip stitching red stag, tahr and chamois together. Helicopter access is charged per animal for alpine work; wallabies are run as night hunts. The species board also lists fallow, white-tail, wapiti, boar, goat and Arapawa ram.
