Whanganui National Park
This 1,092 ha part of Whanganui National Park sits in the Manawatu-Wanganui region under the Taumarunui Reserves permit area, on the northern edge of the park. Elevations are low, running from about 87 m up to 410 m with a median around 204 m, so this is lowland bush country well below the bushline.
The block has a strong south-and-south-east lean, with about 19% of the country facing south, 18% south-east and 15% south-west. Northerly aspects barely feature. That gives a clear set of shaded sidles to focus on, with cool feed-holding country dominating this slice of national park bush.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. Lowland papa-bottomed gully systems suit pigs particularly well.
