Whanganui National Park (Pt)

Ordinary21,488 haPermit: Permitted

This 21,488 ha part of Whanganui National Park sits in the Manawatu-Wanganui region under the Mangapurua permit area, covering a substantial slice of the park on the Mangapurua side. Elevations run from about 42 m up to 635 m, with a median around 311 m, so it is lowland to mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.

Aspects are evenly spread, with a slight lean to south and west. There is no single dominant face — the block covers a wide spread of bush-clad spur and gully country typical of the park, with the Mangapurua catchment running through. At over 21,000 hectares this is one of the larger contiguous chunks of national park bush you can hunt in the country.

Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. Pigs are well-suited to the lowland gully systems.
