Whanganui National Park (Pt)
This 4,115 ha part of Whanganui National Park sits in the Manawatu-Wanganui region under the Whanganui Reserves permit area. Elevations run from about 10 m up to 654 m, with a median around 348 m, so it is lowland to mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline, dropping from spur ridges to the river valleys.
The block has an east-and-south lean, with about 16% of the country facing east, 14% south and useful shares to south-east and north-east. Northerly aspects are limited. That gives a workable set of warm easterly sidles and shaded southerly faces depending on wind.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. This is classic Whanganui National Park bush hunting, broken papa country with deep gullies.
