Whangamomona Conservation Area
Whangamomona Conservation Area (Whanganui Forests) is a 4,977 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Whanganui Forests permit area. Elevations are low, running from about 56 m up to 646 m with a median around 235 m, so this is lowland to foothill bush country well below the bushline.
Aspects are evenly spread, with a slight lean to north-west and west. There is no single dominant face — the block is rolling back-country bush typical of the Taranaki-Whanganui interior, broken by spur-and-gully systems. At nearly 5,000 hectares it is a useful piece of country for multi-day trips.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig.
