Waitaka Scenic Reserve
Waitaka Scenic Reserve is a 918 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Western King Country permit area. Elevations run from about 177 m up to 488 m, with a median around 285 m, so this is lowland to foothill bush country well below the bushline.
The block has a westerly lean, with about 20% of the country facing west and 16% south-west, and useful shares also picking up north-west. Easterly aspects are limited. That gives a clear set of cool, shaded westerly sidles to focus on, with feed-holding country dominating.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. It is a useful weekend block in Western King Country.
