Waiaraia Scenic Reserve
Waiaraia Scenic Reserve is a 406 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Taranaki Forests permit area. Elevations run from about 225 m up to 578 m, with a median around 387 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
The block has a strong east-and-south-east lean, with about 23% of the country facing east, 23% south-east and 18% south. Northerly and westerly aspects are limited. That gives a clear set of warm easterly sidles and shaded south-easterly faces, with cool feed-holding country on the south.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. It is a useful weekend-trip block in Taranaki Forests country.
