Te Wera Bush Conservation Area
Te Wera Bush Conservation Area is a 690-hectare block in the Whakatane / Waioeka / Urutawa permit area, sitting in the Gisborne back country on the Waioeka–Urewera margin. Elevations run from 586 m to 960 m with a median of 821 m, so this is hill country country well below the bushline rather than alpine ground.
The block faces predominantly north-west, with a strong run of north and west aspects soaking up the afternoon sun. Expect tight bush ridges and gully systems characteristic of the inland Gisborne country.
The block carries red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig, giving hunters four quarry species in a compact piece of country.
