Moanui Conservation Area
Moanui Conservation Area is a 1,509-hectare block in the Whakatane / Waioeka / Urutawa permit area, sitting in the Gisborne back country between the Raukumara and Urewera hills. Elevations run from 399 m to 1,050 m with a median of 764 m, so this is hill country country well below the bushline rather than alpine tops.
Aspects are mixed, with a south-east lean but solid representation of north-west, east and west faces. Expect bush-covered ridges, broken gullies and the steep mixed faces typical of the Waioeka–Raukumara region.
The block carries red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig, one of the few inland Gisborne blocks where all four species overlap.
