Raukumara Conservation Area is a 1,904-hectare block in the Gisborne / Raukumara permit area, lying within the broader Raukumara country at the head of the East Cape ranges. Elevations run from 203 m to 1,389 m with a median of 751 m, so country grades from lowland gully bottoms up to near-tops ridgelines with a thin fringe of country above the 1,200 m bushline.

The block faces predominantly west, with significant north-west and north aspects taking the afternoon sun. Expect steep bush ridges, broken gullies and the rugged character the Raukumara is known for.

The block carries red deer, wild goat and wild pig.
