Tangarakau Conservation Area

Ordinary6,648 haPermit: Permitted

Tangarakau Conservation Area is a 6,648 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Whanganui Forests permit area. Elevations are low, running from about 70 m up to 509 m with a median around 220 m, so this is lowland to foothill bush country well below the bushline.

Aspects are evenly spread, with a slight lean to south and west. There is no single dominant face — the block is a broad rolling spread of bush-clad spurs and gully systems typical of the Whanganui-Taranaki interior. At over 6,000 hectares it is a serious piece of bush with room to set multiple parties without crowding.

Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. Pigs are well-suited to this lowland papa-bottomed country.
