Sec 18 Scenic Reserve
Sec 18 Scenic Reserve is a small 289 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Mangapurua permit area on the western side of the Whanganui National Park country. Elevations run from about 209 m up to 590 m, with a median around 443 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
The block has an easterly lean, with about 21% of the country facing east and useful shares also dropping north-east, south and south-east. Westerly aspects are limited. That gives a clear set of warm easterly sidles catching the morning sun, with shaded southerly faces holding cooler feed.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. At this size it works as a focused short stalk or weekend trip in Mangapurua country.
