Rotokahu Scenic Reserve
Rotokahu Scenic Reserve is a 509 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Taumarunui Reserves permit area, and is classed as a restricted hunting area (RHA). Elevations run from about 275 m up to 668 m, with a median around 539 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
The block has a westerly lean, with about 19% of the country facing west, 18% north and useful shares also picking up north-west and south-west. Easterly aspects are limited. That gives a clear set of cool, shaded westerly sidles to focus on, with feed-holding country dominating.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. It is bush-and-spurs hunting through the King Country back bush.
