Pukeatua Conservation Area

Ordinary282 haPermit: Permitted

Pukeatua Conservation Area is a small 282 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Taumarunui Reserves permit area. Elevations run from about 145 m up to 440 m, with a median around 262 m, so this is lowland to foothill bush country well below the bushline.

The block has a strong south-and-east lean, with about 23% of the country facing south, 21% east and useful shares also dropping south-west and south-east. Northerly aspects barely feature. That gives a clear set of shaded southerly sidles and warm easterly faces depending on wind direction.

Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. At this size it is a focused short-stalk block.
