Mystery Block Conservation Area
Mystery Block Conservation Area is a 625 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Whanganui Reserves permit area. Elevations run from about 193 m up to 494 m, with a median around 323 m, so this is lowland to foothill bush country well below the bushline.
Aspects are very evenly spread, with no single dominant face and only a slight lean to the south. That makes it a rolling bush block with workable approaches for most wind directions — useful when planning where to set in on a given day. The country is spur-and-gully Whanganui-style forest.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. At 625 hectares it is a workable weekend-trip block.
