Mangatawai Conservation Area (Pt)

Ordinary202 haPermit: Permitted

Mangatawai Conservation Area (Pt) is a small 202 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Mangapurua permit area. Elevations run from about 284 m up to 519 m, with a median around 429 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.

The block has a south-east lean, with around 20% of the country facing south-east and good shares also dropping to the south and west. Northerly aspects are limited. That gives a workable set of shaded sidles, and the spur-and-gully country typical of the Mangapurua–Whanganui interior.

Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. At this size it suits a focused day or weekend stalk.
