Kokaka Conservation Area
Kokaka Conservation Area is a 453 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Taumarunui Reserves permit area, and is classed as a restricted hunting area (RHA). Elevations run from about 398 m up to 672 m, with a median near 582 m, so this is mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
Aspects are fairly evenly spread, with a slight lean to the north-west and south-east. There is no single dominant face — the block is rolling bush-and-spurs country with workable approaches for most wind directions.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. At this size the block suits a focused weekend stalk by the allocated party.
