Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park
Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park is a major 40,132 hectare public hunting area in the Tauranga Area permit zone, Bay of Plenty. Elevations run from 25 m at the lower edges up to 943 m on the tops, with a median of 438 m — lowland to mid-elevation country sitting below the bushline.
The park covers the Kaimai and Mamaku ranges, with bush ground running from the lowland faces up to the higher ridges. Slopes lean east on the dominant aspect, but the park is large enough that hunters can find faces on any wind. The country is timbered throughout — there are no open tops here, just rolling bush with the higher ridges still in canopy.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. The Kaimai is one of the best-known fallow areas in the central North Island.

What you can hunt here
Access & getting there
A network of huts inside the park supports multi-day trips, including Te Rereatukahia Hut, Hurunui Hut, Motutapere Hut, Daly's Clearing Hut, Waitawheta Hut, Kauritatahi Hut and Mangamuka Hut. Most are reached on foot from the road ends on the Tauranga and Waikato sides of the range.
Air access is not permitted in the park and WARO is not flagged, so all hunting here is foot-based.
