Conservation Area - Minginui
Conservation Area - Minginui is a 651 hectare public hunting block in the Whirinaki/Rangitaiki permit area, sitting in the Whirinaki forest country of the eastern Bay of Plenty. Elevations run from 374 m up to 676 m, with a median of 466 m, so this is lowland bush country well below the bushline.
This is classic Whirinaki podocarp and mixed-bush ground around Minginui village. Slopes lean west on the dominant aspect, with a fair share of south-west and north-west giving shaded gully systems and sidles to work.
Game on the permit includes red deer, rusa and wild pig. The rusa entry is unusual — Whirinaki holds one of the few wild populations of the species in New Zealand.
