Jean D'arcy Memorial Conservation Area
Jean D'arcy Memorial Conservation Area is a 1,085 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Whanganui Reserves permit area. Elevations run from about 293 m up to 679 m, with a median around 512 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.
Aspects are evenly spread across the eight directions, with a small lean to the south. There is no single dominant face, so it is rolling bush-and-spurs country with workable approaches for most wind directions. The block sits within the wider Whanganui Reserves country of broken papa ridges and bush-clad gullies.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. At just over 1,000 hectares it is a useful piece of bush for a weekend trip.
