Elevations run from 482 m to 2,210 m with a median of just 934 m, so the bulk of the block sits in the lower bush and scrub belt with a few drainages running up onto serious tops.
Twenty-three per cent of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline and 7% is alpine, putting it in the mix of bush and tops bracket — beech and scrub through the bottom, tussock and rocky basins above. The country leans south-east, with strong south-east and east aspects holding feed on shaded sidles.
The permit covers red deer, chamois, wild goat and wild pig. The vertical range gives hunters genuine multi-species options from a single block — pigs and goats low, reds in the bush belt, chamois on the upper faces.

Air access is not permitted on Elliott, but WARO is permitted, so commercial recovery flights may be active over the higher country during the season. Hunters work in on foot from the legal access points on the Molesworth and Clarence side.
