Alma
Alma is a 3,042-hectare roar block on the Molesworth Station and Clarence grazing lease, sitting in the inland Marlborough high country east of the main divide. Elevations run from 907 m to 1,917 m with a median around 1,213 m, making this mostly above-the-bushline tops country with a fringe of beech and scrub on the lower margins.
Fifty-two per cent of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline, and the country leans strongly north-west — the main faces catch afternoon sun and the prevailing nor-wester. Expect open tussock basins, snow grass and bony ridges typical of the Clarence side of the Inland Kaikoura ranges.
The permit lists red deer and chamois. Reds work the bush edge and lower gullies; chamois sit on the harder upper faces and ridge systems. The roar period is the obvious window, with the wider Molesworth country drawing hunters in from late March.

What you can hunt here
This is a roar — the red deer roar peaks from late March into April, and competition for the block is highest then.
Access & getting there
Air access is not permitted on this block and no DOC huts sit inside it, so hunters walk in from the legal access points on the Molesworth and Clarence side. WARO is not currently permitted, so the country sees no commercial recovery flights — useful to know when planning glassing positions.
With no hut network on Alma itself, parties typically fly camp or work from a base outside the block. Carry a fly or tent, plan a sensible route in, and check the latest Molesworth access status before leaving — vehicle access on the station road system is seasonal and conditional.
