Clarence Faces
Clarence Faces covers 3,966 hectares on the Molesworth Station and Clarence grazing lease, dropping off the Inland Kaikoura range toward the Clarence River. Elevations run from 539 m to 2,167 m with a median of 1,180 m — a long vertical span that takes hunters from the river-side scrub up onto serious tops.
Forty-nine per cent of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline and 24% is alpine, so this is mostly above the bushline tops country with a strong south-east aspect lean. The big south-east and east faces dominate the block, giving long shaded sidles that hold feed and animals through the warmer parts of the day.
The permit covers red deer, chamois, wild goat and wild pig. The vertical range means hunters can chase pigs and goats low, reds in the bush-edge belt, and chamois up on the rocky ridges all from the same drainage.

What you can hunt here
Access & getting there
Air access is not permitted on Clarence Faces and WARO is not permitted either, so the country is walked. Hunters work in from the legal access points on the Molesworth and Clarence side.
No DOC huts sit within the block, so plan to fly camp or work from a base outside. The big vertical relief here means camp choice matters — pick a height that gives you sensible access to whichever species you are after. Carry a fly or tent and confirm Molesworth access status before leaving.
