Waimana Gorge Scenic Reserve
Waimana Gorge Scenic Reserve is a 236 hectare public hunting block in the Whakatane/Waioeka/Urutawa permit area, eastern Bay of Plenty. Elevations run from 20 m up to 258 m, with a median of 139 m — coastal lowland country well below the bushline.
The block sits in the Waimana Gorge running inland from the coast. Slopes lean east on the dominant aspect, with a fair share of north-east and south-east faces giving warm sunlit sidles through much of the day.
Game on the permit includes red deer, sika and wild pig. The sika entry is significant — this is the eastern edge of the central North Island sika range.

What you can hunt here
Access & getting there
There are no huts or campsites recorded inside the reserve, and Waimana Gorge is not flagged for air access or WARO. Hunters will be working in on foot from road access — State Highway 38 runs through the gorge.
Given the gorge setting, expect steep bush travel and sidling rather than glassing.
