Rotokura Ecological Area

Ordinary226 haPermit: Permitted

Rotokura Ecological Area is a small 226 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Ruapehu permit area. Elevations sit tightly between about 667 m and 740 m, with a median around 703 m, so it is uniformly higher mid-altitude bush country well below the bushline.

The block has a south-and-south-west lean, with about 25% of the country facing south, 24% south-west and a useful share to east. Northerly aspects are minor. That gives a clear set of shaded sidles to focus on, with cool feed-holding country dominating the small block.

Game on the permit includes red deer, sika and wild pig. It is a small piece of sika-and-reds bush in the wider Ruapehu country.
