Rangitaiki Conservation Area

Ordinary6,233 haPermit: Permitted

Rangitaiki Conservation Area is a large 6,233 hectare public hunting block in the Taupo Reserves and Conservation Areas permit zone, on the Bay of Plenty / Taupo boundary. Elevations run from 491 m up to 1,086 m, with a median of 744 m — mid-elevation country sitting just below the bushline at its highest reaches.

The block is bush-covered ground in the Rangitaiki country east of Taupo. Slopes lean west on the dominant aspect, with a fair share of south-west and north-west faces giving shaded sidles through much of the day. Some country here pushes above 1,000 m without quite reaching open tops.

Game on the permit includes red deer, sika and wild pig. This is genuine sika country in the central North Island stronghold for the species.
