Rangataua No.2 Conservation Area
Rangataua No.2 Conservation Area is a 1,297 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Ruapehu permit area. Elevations run from about 652 m up to 761 m, with a tight median around 695 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country below the bushline across the whole block.
The block has a very strong south-west-and-south lean: about 34% of the country faces south-west, 28% faces south and 24% faces west. Northerly and easterly aspects are minor. That gives a clear set of cool, shaded sidles to focus on, with feed-holding country dominating.
Game on the permit includes red deer, sika and wild pig. The block sits within the central North Island sika range and works as bush sika country with reds in the mix.
