Raketapauma Swamp Scenic Reserve
Raketapauma Swamp Scenic Reserve is a small 150 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Palmerston North Area Reserves permit area. Elevations are very flat, running from about 779 m to 800 m with a median of 785 m, so the block sits as high plateau country well below the bushline but with almost no relief.
The block is overwhelmingly east-facing — about 63% of the country tilts east, with another 14% facing north-east. Other aspects are very minor. With low relief and the swamp landform, this is flat-ground habitat more than the spur-and-gully country typical of the wider Ruahine foothills.
Game on the permit includes red deer, wild goat and wild pig. It is a small, specialised flat-ground stalk, more suited to pigs and goats working margins than long bush deer hunts.
