Otamarautara Stream Scenic Reserve
Otamarautara Stream Scenic Reserve is a 568 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Ruapehu permit area. Elevations run from about 549 m up to 848 m, with a median around 642 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country below the bushline.
The block has a southerly lean, with about 21% of the country facing south and useful shares also dropping south-east, west and south-west. Northerly and easterly aspects are limited. That gives a clear set of shaded sidles to focus on, useful country to set into for typical northerly winds.
Game on the permit includes red deer, sika and wild pig. The block sits within the central North Island sika range, so it is bush sika country with reds mixing in.
