Omahuta Forest is a large 6,585 ha block at the heart of the Omahuta-Puketi forest system in central Northland. Elevations run from 13 m up to 469 m with a median of 209 m, so the whole block sits in lowland to foothill bush well below the bushline.
Aspect is broadly spread, with the strongest shares facing north-east, north and east. The forest carries some of Northland's most significant subtropical kauri-podocarp-broadleaf cover, with the dense canopy making for close-range stalking.
Game on the permit is wild goat and wild pig. The size of the block lets hunters spread out and work different country across multiple trips.
