Herekino Forest is a 4,357 ha block on the western side of Northland's Aupōuri-North Hokianga country. Elevations run from 18 m near the coast edge up to 550 m, with a median of 313 m — solid lowland and foothill bush sitting well below the bushline.
Aspect is spread, with the strongest shares facing south, west, south-east and south-west. The block carries subtropical bush characteristic of inland Northland, including kauri-podocarp-broadleaf cover threading across gullies and ridges.
Game on the permit is wild goat and wild pig. At over 4,000 ha, this is a meaningful block to spend multiple days working through.
