Ahipara Gumfields Historic Reserve
The Ahipara Gumfields Historic Reserve is a small 227 ha block on the elevated plateau country behind Ahipara in Northland. Elevations are tight, running from 151 m up to 230 m with a median of 198 m — essentially flat-topped lowland country with very little relief.
Aspect leans west, with around a third of the block facing west and another fifth to the south-west. The reserve sits well below the bushline and is shaped by the gumfield history of the area, with low scrub, manuka and regenerating cover rather than tall forest.
Wild pig is the listed species. The compact size and easy terrain suit a short day hunt rather than a multi-day mission.
