Mangamuka Gorge Scenic Reserve is a 2,954 ha block on the southern side of the Maungataniwha range in Northland. Elevations run from 25 m up to 527 m with a median of 256 m, so the whole reserve sits in lowland and foothill bush below the bushline.
Aspect is varied but tips toward the south-east, east and south, with shaded faces holding the dense subtropical canopy that characterises the gorge country. The block carries the kauri-podocarp-broadleaf bush of the Maungataniwha foothills.
