Mangamingi Stream Conservation Area

Ordinary471 haPermit: Permitted

Mangamingi Stream Conservation Area is a 471 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Tongariro National Park permit area. Elevations run from about 615 m up to 1,057 m, with a median around 733 m, so this is mid-altitude bush country sitting just below the bushline.

The block has a strong west-and-south-west lean, with around 37% of the country facing west, another 25% south-west and useful shares to north-west and south. Northerly and easterly aspects barely feature. That gives a clear set of shaded westerly sidles to focus on, with cool feed-holding country through most of the block.

Game on the permit includes red deer, sika and wild pig. The block sits within the central North Island sika range, so it is classic bush sika country with reds mixing in.
