Lindis - Firearms prohibited on access tracks

Ordinary4,060 haPermit: Permitted

Lindis is a 4,060 ha public hunting block in the Canterbury permit area. Elevations run from 759 m at the bottom up to 1,656 m on the tops, with a median of 1,156 m.

This is a mix of bush and tops country — 43% of the ground sits above the bushline, with only a small fraction (4%) pushing into true alpine country above 1,500 m. The block is open tussock and shrubland on the tops grading into rougher hill country below. Slopes lean south-east-facing, so the dominant aspect carries the cooler shaded faces typical of inland Otago-edge country.

The species list is unusually wide for a block this size: red deer, fallow deer, tahr, chamois, wild pig and wallaby. The combination of fallow alongside reds, plus wallaby in the low country and tahr or chamois on the higher faces, makes Lindis a strong mixed-species option.
