Jacobs Upper
Jacobs Upper is a 3,599 ha balloted Roar block in the South Westland - Weheka permit area. Elevations climb from 450 m on the lower edges to 2,222 m on the tops, with a median around 1,204 m.
This is predominantly alpine country — 50% of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline and 27% pushes into ground above 1,500 m. The dominant aspect is north, so the main faces catch steady sun through the day.
It carries red deer, tahr, chamois and wild goat. The four-species mix is unusual on a South Westland block, with goats picking up the lower bush and rock margins on top of the standard red, tahr and chamois package.
