08 - Ryans Creek
Block 08 - Ryans Creek is a 2,898 ha balloted roar block in the South Westland - Weheka permit area. Elevations run from sea level up to 1,069 m, with a median of 384 m and a mean of 402 m.
None of the block sits above the bushline. This is lowland and foothill country — heavy West Coast bush, river flats and bluffy spurs typical of the Jackson Bay - Gorge River coastal hinterland. Slopes lean north-west on the dominant aspect, giving warmer afternoon faces.
The block holds red deer, tahr and chamois on the permit. Reds are the realistic quarry through the timber at this elevation; tahr and chamois are listed for the wider permit area but the country sits below their usual range on this block.
