Conservation Area - Otohi
Conservation Area - Otohi is a 293 hectare public hunting block in the Whirinaki/Rangitaiki permit area, eastern Bay of Plenty. Elevations run from 330 m up to 752 m, with a median of 524 m — lowland to mid-elevation bush country sitting well below the bushline.
This is Whirinaki forest country, with podocarp and mixed bush typical of the wider area. Slopes lean west on the dominant aspect, with strong shares of south-west and north-west giving shaded faces and gully systems to work.
Game on the permit includes red deer, rusa and wild pig. The rusa entry reflects this block's place in one of the few areas in New Zealand with a wild rusa population.
