Waingakia Stream Conservation Area

Ordinary817 haPermit: Permitted

Waingakia Stream Conservation Area is a 817 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Kaimanawa Forest Park permit area. Elevations run from about 761 m up to 1,331 m, with a median around 1,009 m. Around 19% of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline, so this is a mix of bush and tops — long bush sidles low down leading to broken ridges higher up.

The block has a strong south-east-and-west lean, with about 23% of the country facing south-east, 20% west and useful shares to south and south-west. Northerly aspects barely feature. That gives shaded southerly faces and cool westerly sidles dominating the block, with the open tops sitting at the top of the elevation range.

Game on the permit includes red deer and sika. This is classic central North Island sika-and-reds country, with the chance to work both bush and tops.
