Upper Zora is a 2,066 ha balloted Roar block in the South Westland - Weheka permit area. Elevations climb from 479 m on the lower edges to 2,535 m on the tops, with a median around 1,559 m.
This is predominantly alpine country — 76% of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline and 54% pushes well into ground above 1,500 m. The dominant aspect is west, so the main faces catch the afternoon sun and the prevailing weather.
The block carries red deer, tahr and chamois. With most of the country at alpine elevation, it's tahr and chamois ground first, with reds in the limited lower bush.
