Pureora Recreational Hunting Area
Pureora Recreational Hunting Area is a large 17,278 ha Recreational Hunting Area inside Pureora Forest Park country, thick podocarp forest with sika in adjacent blocks. The country is lowland to foothill country, dominated by mature podocarp-hardwood forest typical of the Pureora area. Elevations run from about 113 m up to 976 m, with a median sample around 556 m.
The block sits below the bushline, so this is hunting through bush, gully heads and sidles rather than open tops.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. Sika are the prized animal across the wider Pureora and central plateau country, and adjacent blocks carry strong populations. The scale of the block lets parties spread out and work several drainages over a longer trip.
