Puketoi Conservation Area
Puketoi Conservation Area is a 1,788 ha block in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, taken out under the Wairarapa Reserves permit area. Elevations run from about 255 m up to 744 m, with a median around 470 m, so it sits as mid-altitude bush country below the bushline.
The block has a strong south-east and east lean, with about 27% of the country facing south-east and 20% east. Westerly and north-westerly aspects barely feature. That gives a clear set of warm easterly sidles and shaded south-easterly faces, but it means easterly winds are hard to work cleanly here.
Game on the permit includes red deer and wild pig. It is bush-and-spurs hunting through the southern Wairarapa-facing country of the broader Puketoi Range.
