Okui Forest Conservation Area is a 1,173 hectare public hunting block in the Whirinaki/Rangitaiki permit area, eastern Bay of Plenty. Elevations run from 279 m up to 865 m, with a median of 572 m — lowland to mid-elevation bush country sitting below the bushline.
The block is Whirinaki-style podocarp and mixed bush country. Slopes lean west on the dominant aspect, with a fair share of south-west and north-west faces giving shaded sidles and gully systems to work.
Game on the permit is red deer and wild pig. Quiet still-hunting in the bush is the realistic approach.
