Mohakatino Conservation Area
Mohakatino Conservation Area is a 13,158 ha block of Taranaki bush country under the Taranaki Forests permit area. Elevations run from near sea level at about 6 m up to 527 m, with the median ground around 257 m. The block stays well below the bushline throughout, so this is lowland and foothill country rather than tops.
Aspect is spread fairly evenly across all eight points, with a slight lean to west and north-west. Country here is broken bush, ridges and gully systems typical of the northern Taranaki backcountry — long stretches of low to mid-altitude forest cut by streams.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. With its size and four available species, the block supports multi-day trips and rewards hunters happy to work in deep.
